Half a Hundred for Hospitality

Half a Hundred for Hospitality
John and Grey Buck

Grey Buck lies on the back of her father, local personal trainer John Buck, who is leading the Half a Hundred for Hospitality fitness campaign now through May 8 for Hospitality House of Tulsa.

From Five years ago Tulsa firefighter John Buck was diagnosed with a rare form of head and neck cancer, for which he sought out-of-state treatment. Without the support and sacrifice of family, friends and the Tulsa Fire Department, his 50 days of active treatment would have been infinitely more difficult.

To celebrate his fourth year being cancer-free, Buck, who’s a personal trainer at Forge Gym in the Pearl District, has kicked off the Half a Hundred for Hospitality campaign. The community is encouraged to join the cause by committing to do a variety of fitness reps for 50 consecutive days (having begun March 20) and ending the 50th day at a celebration event month after next. The celebration will feature a recognition of teams, participants and sponsors, with each participant and team that reaches their fundraising goals awarded a T-shirt. Participants and team awards will be also be given to those who raised the most support, accomplished the greatest number of fitness reps and those who had the biggest health transformation. Other highlights include the Hope Rising balloon release.

Participants can form teams and encourage their network of friends, family and coworkers to support them in their fitness challenge through online donations.

Proceeds will benefit Hospitality House of Tulsa, and go directly to helping individuals and their families as they seek medical treatment in Tulsa.

Celebration event details: 6 p.m. Thursday, May 8, the University of Tulsa’s H.A. Chapman Stadium, 3112 E. Eighth St.

Presenting sponsor: The Mary K. Chapman Foundation

the gift.

Four years ago this month we discovered the power of community and began a journey that lead us to create Forge.
Our cancer diagnosis became a gift;
it revealed an incredible community forged from faith, hope and love.
Some of the very people whose benevolence carried us through those times now join us at Forge.
They were, in many ways, the inspiration for Forge. They are an aspiration to this very day.
The kindness of others restores.
